In spite of the fact that he was born into wealth, Ojukwu opted for a hard way of living, preferring to die with the less-privileged than to dine and wine with kings. He earned the trust of his people. He inspired them by his own personal sacrifice. He led them through the turbulent times of the civil war – with the flag of the rising sun fluttering, as reflected in the Biafran Flag– to believe that they were that sun rising.

He remained the indisputable Igbo leader in the hearts of millions of his people who saw him as a veritable liberator of a marginalized and traumatized people. This book is an attempt to x-ray the life and times of this great uncommon leader of the black race as well as to understand the inner workings of his mind as exemplified and expressed in his sometimes forceful, intellectually sound and brave speeches.
